A few weeks ago the very liberal Swedish society was shaken by the news of a young woman from Eskilstuna who had two consecutive abortions based merely on the sex of the unborn child. The unlucky fetus had the misfortune of being of female gender and when the mother found out she decided to have an abortion as she already has two daughters. The very same woman already had a gender based abortion in the past and doctors at Mälaren Hospital expressed their concern and asked Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare to draw up guidelines on how to handle requests in the future in which they “feel pressured to examine the fetus’s gender” without having a medically compelling reason to do so.The board responded that there is no legal base to refuse gender based abortions according to the current law and there was nothing they could do to stop her as all women have the right to abortion for any reason, medical or not, as many times as they wish up to the 18th week of pregnancy.

Gerald Frederick Toben, 65, who is wanted in Germany on charges of Holocaust® denial, was jailed on 24 counts of criminal contempt of court, but the sentence was delayed for 14 days pending an appeal.
“Evidence showed a continuing public defiance of the authority of the court,” Federal Court judge Bruce Lander was quoted as saying by the national AAP news agency.
The court had ordered Toben to stop publishing offensive material on his Adelaide Institute website in 2002 after complaints by a former president of the executive council of the Australian Jewish community.
