Palestinian Women-Ramallah 2011
YEARNING FOR FREEDOM — Palestinian women in Ramallah cheer,
as

they celebrate the call for national sovereignty in a state of their own.

The time has come for a “Palestinian Spring,” to join the Arab Spring

in reshaping the Middle East, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
told the UN General Assembly on Friday in a historic plea for support
for his application for full membership in the international organization.
“My people desire to exercise their right to enjoy a normal life like the
rest of humanity,” Abbas said. … His speech was closely watched
across the Middle East. The hundreds who gathered in Ramallah
greeted the news that he had formally filed the request with cheers,
song and dance.

US in a bind with Palestinian statehood bid
CNN — Elise Labott & Tom Cohen
http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/20/politics/us-palestinians-israel/index.html

In 2009, a freshly elected US president who campaigned on
the themes of hope and change appointed a veteran negotiator
to take a crack at the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Now, 32
months after President Barack Obama named former Sen.
George Mitchell as his chief Middle East envoy, the peace
process is stalled and the United States faces the diplomati-
cally dangerous possibility of have to veto a United Nations
Security Council resolution on Palestinian statehood.
How did it get to this point? … A US veto would amount to
Washington blocking an outcome it has publicly supported—
the creation of a Palestinian state … “For President Obama,
who came into office speaking about self-determination and
promised the Palestinians that it’s a new day and a new dawn
for them, to go to the Security Council and cast a veto against
the Palestinian state is politically problematic,” Fouad Ajami,
a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute think tank, said Monday
on CNN.

US desperate to thwart Palestinian statehood bid
Gulf News — Linda S. Heard

… The Palestinians are doing nothing wrong. They are merely
taking the only channel legitimately left open to them. They’ve
abandoned armed struggle; they’ve spent decades talking to
Israeli leaderships and have made generous concessions to
no avail, they’ve tried peaceful protest only to be shot at or
jailed. What’s left to them other than an appeal to the inter-
national community? And why should such appeal elicit fear
in both the Israeli and American corridors of power?
The problem is if the US turns out to be the lone UNSC
[Security Council] member state to flourish its veto to protect
Israeli interests as it was earlier this year, Israel’s diplomatic
isolation will be highlighted along with Washington’s slavish
posture and its unsuitability to be any kind of Middle East
broker let alone an honest one.

International National Socialist body recognizes ‘State of Palestine’
NSNS

Citing what it called “the fundamental National Socialist
principle acknowledging the right to political independence
for all peoples of good will,” the World Union of National
Socialists (WUNS) has adopted a resolution formally
recognizing the newlyannounced State of Palestine as a
“sovereign national embodiment of the Palestinian people.”

The nongovernmental organization (NGO) called upon mem-

bers of the international community to join in establishing

diplomatic ties with the provisional government of the new

state, and to “support it politically and economically, as well

as militarily.”

It also demanded the immediate withdrawal of Zionist occu-

pation forces from Palestinian territory and the dismantling

of all Jewish settlements. … It further called for the right of

return for Palestinians expelled from their ancestral home-

land during the [Palestinian holocaust] of 1948, as well as

that of their descendants.

The NGO said it viewed the establishment of an independent

Palestinian state as the first step in a struggle for complete

Palestinian sovereignty, with its interim borders seen

as provisional and subject to revision and expansion, with

Jerusalem (Al Quds) as the future capital of a united Palestine.

… The World Union of National Socialists was formed at an

assembly of leading European and American National Social-

ists in the Cotswolds in England in 1962.

Among those present at the gathering were noted American

activist George Lincoln Rockwell and the late Colin Jordan

of Britain, who served as first head of the organization. New

Order commander Matt Koehl is the current WUNS president.

Why The Middle East Will Never Be the Same Again
The Independent, London — Robert Fisk
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fisk/robert-fisk-why-the-middle-east-will-never-be-the-same-again-2357514.html

The Palestinians won’t get a state this week. But they will
prove—if they get enough votes in the General Assembly and
if Mahmoud Abbas does not succumb to his characteristic
groveling in the face of US-Israeli power—that they are worthy
of statehood … This vote at the UN—General Assembly or
Security Council, in one sense it hardly matters—is going
to
divide the West—Americans from Europeans and scores
of other nations—and it is going to divide the Arabs from the
Americans. It is going to crack open the divisions in the
European Union The game is lost. America’s political power
in the Middle East will this week be neutered on behalf of Israel.
Quite a sacrifice in the name of liberty …

A JEWISH PERSPECTIVE

‘Anti-Semitism the real issue that dare not speak its name’
… The key issue in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, and in the wider
Israeli-Arab dispute, is the issue that dare not speak its name, the

pervasive and profound anti-Semitism that permeates the contem-

porary Islamic world, especially the Middle East.As Richard
Cohen pointed out in The Washington Post last week, when Anwar
Sadat was a young army officer in 1953, he was interviewed by
Al-Musawwar magazine and asked what he would say to Adolf Hitler.
His reply? “My dear Hitler. I admire you from the bottom of my heart.”
… You cannot have a lasting peace settlement when Israel’s
neighbors are consumed with hatred for Jews and contempt for Israel
as a political entity. … The Palestinian leadership itself has more or
less guaranteed there can be no settlement by insisting on the right
of return of all Palestinians who ever lived in pre-independence Israel,
and all their descendants. This amounts to five million people.

Palestinian statehood would kill Israel’s immunity
RT, Moscow

With full member status at the UN, Palestine may finally be able to
hold Israel to account for its crimes against the Palestinian people
and the occupation of their land, believes Palestinian politician
Hanan Ashrawi.
She says receiving full recognition would officially
define Palestinian territory as ‘occupied’ by Israel rather than merely
‘disputed,’ and “would lay the foundation of any resolution based
on international law.”
“We can also hold Israel accountable,

which is something that is driving Israel and the US absolutely
insane.Ashrawi believes the chief reason Israel has been given
special treatment is because it has a powerful lobby in the US.
Britain cancels law allowing war crime charges against Israelis

Britain has amended a law that allowed for issuing arrest warrants
against Israeli politicians who visit the country, British Ambassador
Matthew Gould announced Thursday. Gould called [Israeli] opposition
leader Tzipi Livni, against whom an arrest warrant was issued in 2009,
and told her the Queen has signed the amendment “to ensure that
the UK’s justice system can no longer be abused for political reasons.”
Lawyers working with Palestinian activists in recent years have sought
the arrest of senior Israeli civilian and military figures under terms of
universal jurisdiction.

How an anti-Terror program became a Jewish earmark
Jewish Daily Forward, New York — Nathan Guttman, Eileen Reynolds & Maia Efrem
http://www.forward.com/articles/142542/

… Since 2005, the Nonprofit Security Grant Program administered
by the US Department of Homeland Security has provided $118
million to not-for-profit organizations to become better prepared for
a terror attack. … There’s good reason for the Jewish community
to be proud … Here, too, Jewish groups were the big winners,
with 81% of those awards. This disproportionate distribution is no
accident. Examining the grants program provides a window into
Jewish organizational and political power. It is this power that
allowed a small community to create and maintain a government
program tailored specifically for its needs and catering almost
exclusively to its members.

Religious Freedom in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights
and Labor, were announced last week. MEMRI, a Washington-based
group that translates and researches anti-Semitic trends in the
Middle East and South Asia, was awarded the grant to document
and translate anti-Semitism and Holocaust® denial in the Middle East.
Centropa, a Vienna-based organization that uses technology and
interactive social media to teach about the Holocaust® in Hungary,
Lithuania and Poland, was given the grant for Holocaust® education

US tax-evasion probe turns to Israeli banks
Reuters — Lynnley Browning

The US pursuit of offshore tax evaders is widening to include Israel,
where US authorities are scrutinizing three of Israel’s largest banks
over suspicions their Swiss outposts helped American clients evade
taxes, people briefed on the matter said. The banks under scrutiny
by the US Justice Department’s criminal tax division are Bank
Hapoalim, Bank Leumi le-Israel BM and Mizrahi-Tefahot, the sources
said. … The shift also opens up a potential sore spot in the historically
close relationship between the United States and Israel, a key
diplomatic and military ally in the Middle East that is the biggest
recipient of US aid—$3.1 billion last year.

US Congressmen’s wealth triples despite recession

Press TV, Tehran — Rhonda Pence (w/ video 2:38 min)
http://www.presstv.com/detail/200280.html

The US recession has hurt main street America. A million people
lost their homes to foreclosure last year. Millions more are out of
work. Poverty is at an all-time high and some economists say the
middle class is disappearing. But there’s at least one group the
recession apparently hasn’t touched: Members of Congress.
According to The Wall Street Journal, lawmakers’ income tripled
from 2006 to 2010. ,,, Some analysts say big bank accounts
contribute to Congress being out of touch with the rest of America.

Britain’s Nazi obsession betrays our insecurity—it’s time we moved on

The Guardian, London — Simon Jenkins

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/sep/22/britain-nazi-obsession-insecurity-history

What is the matter with us? We seem unable to get the Nazis out

of our system. Earlier this summer the curtain rose on on Berlioz’s

The Damnation of Faust at the London Coliseum, and my heart sank.

The stage was alive with stormtroopers and jackboots. The banality

was crashing: Faust, the Devil … Hitler, get it? By act two we were

deep in the Holocaust®. This week the same opera house launched

Weinberg’s The Passenger. It is set in Auschwitz.
Small wonder Hitler is now the ruling obsession of the national

curriculum. … The GCSE history website scores 417,000 mentions

of Hitler against just 157,000 for Henry VIII and the Tudors.
… The British book-writing, book-selling and book-buying public

seems obsessed with recounting its forefathers’ triumphs over the

Germans … In 2000 there were 380 English-language titles on the
Third Reich, adding to some 30,000 with the word Hitler in the title.
… Needless to say, Nazis are still a favorite topic of that cultural
wild west, the videogames industry,
… with little sign of their being

replaced by Russians or mujahideen. When not killing mutants

of aliens, players kill Germans.

The enduring Nazification of evil was best summed up by the

American Mike Godwin in his “law of Nazi analogies”. This stated:

“As any online discussion grows longer, the probability of a

comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 100%.” The topic

is immaterial, but someone will sooner or later characterize someone

else’s point of view with a reference to the Nazis, or “reductio ad

Hitlerum”. … What is extraordinary is that the use of the Third Reich

as an all-purpose metaphor for evil extends to every area of culture.

The sculptors, the Chapman brothers, seem to derive some artistic

drive from Nazism. Theatre directors feel obliged to pump up

Richard III, Macbeth, even Hamlet’s Denmark, by depicting them

in 1940s Germany. … This is strange given that Anglo-Saxons were

nothing if not Germans.

Arminius-Victorious

ARMINIUS (HERMANN) — In this depiction the great Germanic war chief and
common ancestor of Germans and Anglo-Saxons is shown following his victory
over the legions of a decadent Roman Empire at the Battle of Teutoberg Forest
in 9 AD. He became the prototype for the legendary hero Siegfried (Beowulf).

German regime bans political prisoner organization
Jewish Telegraphic Agency
http://jta.org/news/article/2011/09/21/3089520/germany-bans-largest-neo-nazi-group

Announcing the ban of HNG [Hilfsgemeinschaft für nationale poli-
tische Gefangene und deren Angehörige], German interior Minister
Hans-Peter Friedrich said Wednesday that the organizations’s real
purpose is to assist far-right extremists in opposing the democratic
state.
“Holocaust® survivors welcome the ban … as a sign of modern
Germany’s political maturity and its clear determination to confront
extremists in any guise,”
Elan Steinberg, vice president of the
American Gathering of Holocaust® Survivors and their Descendants,
said in a statement responding to the news.
A series of raids on HNG cells followed the ban, and materials were
seized as evidence at locations in the states of Bavaria, Lower Saxony,
North Rhine-Westfalia and Rhineland Pfalz. …
Friedrich said that the
federal government had to stop HNG from bolstering the aggressive,
anti-democratic position of jailed right-wing extremists.
“By rejecting the democratic rule of law and glorifying Nazism, HNG
was trying to bind far-right criminals to ‘the scene,’ “
he said. “HNG
has contributed to the apparent radicalization of the neo-Nazi scene”
through its solidarity with and financial support for [political] criminals.”
