An Austrian court official says a far-right author who questioned the
Holocaust® has been paroled after serving three years in prison for
glorifying Nazi ideology and backing Nazi-era beliefs. Gerd Honsik was
serving concurrent four-year
and two-year terms for writing books and
in right-wing publications that praised
the Hitler era and contained
anti-
Jewish sentiments. He still had over a year left
to serve. Court official
Gerhard Hinger said Thursday the decision to release the
68-year-old
Honsik was reached Monday. … Officials said the parole decision
was
based on age and the fact that he is well-integrated in Spain, where
he
lives
with his family.

Veteran freedom fighter Manfred Roeder freed by German court

Manfred Roeder and to waive all charges against him. Roeder, 82, an
outspoken critic of the illegitimate regime imposed by the Allies after
World War II, had been sentenced to eight months in prison for Politically
Incorrect remarks in defense of the German people. His lawyers
argued
that because of his age and medical condition—Roeder had
suff
ered
a
heart attack and several strokes—their client should be
released
on
humanitarian grounds. The court had indicated earlier that it would
send
the veteran German freedom fighter to a prison hospital to serve

that after World War II, Switzerland began to inquire whether Argentina
kept Nazi treasure hidden in Swiss bank accounts. … The well-known

number of Nazis who had escaped to the South American country after
the war, including Adolf Eichmann and Josef Mengele.

Bavarian mountain into one of the most visited sites in Germany. Tourism
authorities announced that over 300,000 people visited the retreat on the
peak of the Kehlstein mountain which was built for him as a 50th birthday
gift by Nazi party secretary Martin Bormann in 1939. This is nearly 30,000
up on last year. Although Hitler’s Berghof home on the mountain was
destroyed by the Allies in bombing raids and after WW2, the tea house
survived to become a tourism magnet in peacetime. Officials said that
most visitors to the mountain are Americans followed by Britons.


Egyptians tear down Israeli flag as hundreds storm Cairo embassy

A protester climbed the building, where the Israeli embassy occupies
the top floor, and took down the flag, witnesses said. Last month,
another protester was hailed as a hero when he replaced the Israeli flag
with an Egyptian one. On Friday, the Israeli flag was taken down after
hundreds of protesters gathered to break down a concrete wall meant
to protect the building. … Security forces erected the wall earlier this
month, after thousands of angry Egyptians protested for more than a
week outside the embassy, demanding that Egypt’s military rulers expel
the Israeli ambassador.


Turkish warships will escort future Gaza aid vessels

Turkey said on Thursday it would escort aid ships to Gaza and would
not allow a repetition of last year’s Israeli raid that killed nine Turks,
setting the stage for a potential naval confrontation with its former ally.
Raising the stakes in Turkey’s row with Israel over its refusal to apologize
for the killings, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Al Jazeera
television that Turkey had taken steps to stop Israel from unilaterally
exploiting natural resources in the Mediterranean. … “From now on, we
will not let these ships to be attacked by Israel, as what happened with
the Freedom Flotilla,” Erdogan said. … Relations between Turkey and
Israel, two close US allies in the region, have soured since Israeli forces
boarded the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara aid ship in May 2010.

Likelihood of war in Middle East growing, says Israeli general

Recent revolutions in the Arab world and the deteriorating ties with
Turkey are raising the likelihood of a regional war in the Middle East,
IDF Home Front Command Chief, Major General Eyal Eisenberg warned
Monday. “It looks like the Arab Spring, but it can also be a radical Islamic
winter,” he said in a speech at the Institute for National Security Studies
in Tel Aviv. “This leads us to the conclusion that through a long-term
process, the likelihood of an all-out war is increasingly growing,” the IDF
general said. … Referring to what he characterized as the possibility
of a “radical Islamic winter,” Major-General Eisenberg said: “This raises
the likelihood of an all-out, total war, with the possibility of weapons of
mass destruction being used.”

Snopes.com, officially known as the Urban Legends Reference Pages,
has since its humble inception in 1995 come to be regarded as one
of the most trusted debunkers of conspiracy theories on the internet.
Described by one of its many fans—it apparently has over 6 million
visitors per month—as “the grand-daddy of all fact-checking sites,”
Snopes is downright cavalier, however, in its attitude to facts surrounding
Israel’s role in the 9/11 attacks. … Asked on the night of September 11
what the attack meant for relations between the United States and Israel,
Netanyahu replied, “It’s very good.” Then he quickly edited himself:
“Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy.”

Silverstein, who signed a 99-year lease on the World Trade Center
six weeks before 9/11, insuring it for $3.5 billion. Silverstein’s wife’s
insistence that he couldn’t cancel an appointment with his dermatologist
that morning ensured that he missed his daily breakfast meeting with
tenants at the Windows on the World restaurant on the top floors of the
North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Five Israelis who had worked for a moving company based in New Jersey are
being held in US prisons for what the Federal Bureau of Investigation has
described as “puzzling behavior” following the terror attack on the World Trade
Center in New York last Tuesday. The five are expected to be deported sometime
soon. … The mother of one of the young men … said that the five had worked for
the company, which is owned by an Israeli, for between two months and two years.
They had been arrested some four hours after the attack on the Twin Towers while
filming the smoking skyline from the roof of their company’s building, she said. …
The [Israeli] Foreign Ministry said in response that it had been informed by the
consulate in New York that the FBI had arrested the five for “puzzling behavior.”
They are said to have had been caught videotaping the disaster and shouting in
what was interpreted as cries of joy and mockery.

Ten years after the al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington,
most of the 9/11 Commission’s findings have not been released to the
public, despite the fact that the National Archives were scheduled to
release the full material in 2009. Only a third of the unreleased material
has been reviewed to possibly be made public, and much of that has
been withheld or heavily redacted. Several former commission staff
members said there is no comprehensive effort to make the remaining
material public, and they fear much of it will remain sealed indefinitely.

There is likely much more unreleased material that would be
imperative for scholars, journalists, and foreign policy experts to have,
but the classification persists with no full explanation as to why.
